Europe Day was celebrated this year at the Limassol Multifunctional Seaside Park (Molos) Saturday, May 7.
The European Parliament Information Office in Cyprus, the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, the Press and Information Office and Lemesos (Limassol) Municipality worked together to combine knowledge and entertainment.
Information stands on EU funding, employment and education programs, Embassies of EU Member States offered information on their countries as well as their traditional food and drinks, charity bazaar, music, dance and other performances, kids’ corner with fun activities and live radio program by Kanali 6. The Cyprus News Agency was the communication sponsor of the event.
Europe Direct Limassol was there and gave information together with the Technological University of Cyprus, with balloons and a photobooth – you find the pictures form the photo booth here
Why do we celebrate European Day?
Europe Day is celebrated every year throughout the EU on May 9. The date marks the anniversary of the historic speech given in Paris on May 9 1950 by the French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman. His proposal for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would prevent war between Europe’s nations, is considered to be the beginning of what now is the EU. Europe Day gives us the opportunity to remember and celebrate the ideas and values on which the EU is founded, and all that unites us as Europeans.
